Matz20 Children’s Mountain Bike

Lightweight aluminium frame

Thanks to the cleverly designed set of 6061 aluminium tubes, the Matz frame is extremely light, stiff and robust all at once. The geometry is sporty yet balanced and specifically tailored to the needs of young cyclists: a short rear triangle makes the bike particularly agile and makes it easier to shift weight on more technically demanding terrain. Combined with a shorter top tube and head tube, the bike’s handling is noticeably improved, thereby enhancing control and riding safety. A steep seat angle, combined with child-friendly cranks, supports ergonomic and efficient pedalling and helps to conserve valuable energy.

A child-friendly crank. Powerful and clever.

We have specifically designed the lightweight VPACE SL children’s crankset to suit the anatomy of young riders with narrow hips. With a Q-factor of 150 mm, it allows for a natural leg position, resulting in greater efficiency when pedalling and noticeably better power transfer. Thanks to the 3-hole direct mount, changing the chainring is a matter of seconds. And because the crank length also has a major influence on power transfer and efficiency, we tailor it to the specific model size.

The 29er principle with lightweight wheels

With the VPACE 29er concept, we use large wheels across all model sizes. For example, a child who is 105 cm tall can already ride a Matz20 with 20-inch wheels. With other manufacturers, however, it would be a 16-inch bike. Why does this make sense? Because larger wheels roll more efficiently, offer a smoother ride and clear obstacles more easily. Combined with our exceptionally lightweight VPACE SL wheels, young mountain bikers benefit from significantly better acceleration, greater efficiency and improved safety – whether on the trail, on tours or in races.

Safe and controlled handling

The handlebars and stem are not only lightweight, but also adapt perfectly in length and width to the specific model size, ensuring safe, controlled and age-appropriate handling in every riding situation. Gears are changed using smooth-shifting SRAM Trigger shifters, whilst braking is handled by the reliable Magura MT4 disc brakes. The 1-finger HC aluminium brake levers can be perfectly adjusted to fit smaller children’s hands and offer precise control and maximum braking power with minimal effort.

The right frame size depends primarily on height and inseam. To do this, measure your child’s height without shoes and determine their inseam (inside leg length)

1. Measure height

To determine height, have your child stand barefoot, upright with their back against a wall. Now place a book horizontally on their head and measure the distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the book.

2. Measure the inseam

To determine the inseam, have your child stand barefoot, upright with their back against a wall, clamp a book between their legs and pull it upwards into their crotch with the top edge horizontal. Now measure the distance from the floor to the top edge of the book. The length you have measured is your child’s inseam.

3. Determining the right bike size / frame size

As well as height, inseam length also plays an important role in determining the right bike size/frame size. To ensure your child can ride safely, their inseam length should be at least equal to the standover height of the selected size.
